Ingredients

  • 1 kg mutton (bone-in)
  • 2 medium potatoes (peeled and cut into cubes)
  • 2 onions (sliced)
  • 3 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 2-3 cups water
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a pot and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  • Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute.
  • Add mutton and cook until it turns brown.
  • Add red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and yogurt. Cook until tomatoes soften.
  • Add 2-3 cups of water, cover, and cook on low heat until mutton is tender (about 45-60 minutes).
  • Add potatoes and cook until they are soft.
  • Sprinkle garam masala and mix well. Cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with rice or naan.
