Why Mutton Karahi is a Must-Try Dish
Pakistan is famous for its rich and diverse cuisine, offering various aromatic and flavorful dishes. Among these, Mutton Karahi holds a special place as one of the most beloved and iconic dishes. Known for its bold flavors, tender meat, and spicy, tangy gravy, this dish is a must-try for anyone who enjoys South Asian cuisine. Ingredients
- 1 kg mutton (bone-in)
- 4 tomatoes (chopped)
- 1 onion (sliced)
- 3-4 green chilies (sliced)
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
- Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a wok (karahi) and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute.
- Add mutton and cook on high heat until it changes color.
- Add red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and blend with the spices.
- Pour in yogurt and mix well. Cover and cook on low heat for 45-60 minutes until the mutton is tender. Add water if needed.
- Once the oil separates, add green chilies and garam masala. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with naan or roti.
