Margherita Pizza is a timeless Italian classic, known for its thin, crispy crust, rich tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and aromatic basil. Originating from Naples, Italy, this pizza is named after Queen Margherita, who loved its simple yet bold flavors. • 5–6 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Make the Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over low heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  2. Add crushed San Marzano tomatoes, salt, and oregano. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool.

Step 3: Assemble the Pizza

  1. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) and place a pizza stone inside (if available).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 10–12 inch circle.
  3. Transfer the dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel if using a stone.
  4. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough.
  5. Arrange slices of fresh mozzarella on top.

Step 4: Bake the Pizza

  1. Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven and bake for 7–10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy, and the cheese is bubbling.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves.
  2. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
  3. Slice and enjoy your homemade Margherita pizza with authentic Italian flavors!
