  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add onions and sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning, adding sugar if the sauce is too acidic.
  • Stir in fresh basil before serving.
