Sugo is a traditional Italian tomato sauce, rich in flavor and perfect for pairing with pasta, meats, or even pizza. It’s a staple in Italian kitchens.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ teaspoon sugar (optional)
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add onions and sauté until soft and translucent.
- Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning, adding sugar if the sauce is too acidic.
- Stir in fresh basil before serving.
